Martin Dumollard
Martin Dumollard was a domiciled farmer with Dagneux who made many assassinations through the Département of Ain and of the the Rhone. It is undoubtedly the first Serial killer listed French history .
Born on February 22nd, 1810, it is orphan in 1814 when his father, Jean-Pierre Dumollard, farmer originating in the Isere, is found by the Austrians and is massacred for crimes which it would have committed in Austria, its country of origin. Indeed, it would have been Autrichien before taking refuge in France to flee the revenge on its victims, and it is while finding (or while recovering of force…) identity papers which it is made call Jean-Pierre Dumollard. It is a fact which was reported to the court.
Fleeing with his mother, it is found begging its bread to remain. They end up being established in various communes of the sector of Montluel. He marries Marianne Martinet then will be established with Dagneux, where he rents in the street of Mollard a small house. It is there that it will start to commit its crimes.
Being made pass for an employee of Master, it recovered young women under pretext of employ them like good near its Master. It then took them along in the countryside to assassinate them then to steal them.
A few tens of young women were thus victims of this assassin. During many years, one found the bodies of those through the area Lyon is born and in north from Montluel and of the close cantons.
It is only in 1862 that an young woman, seeing under the silver plated moon the reflection of the whip of Martin Dumollard, escaped from accuracy from the assassin. It was in a wood close to Montluel that this one escaped from little from the murder. It took refuge in the first house which it found, with Balan, then one brought it near thepastoral one of this village before becoming the first witness of a judgment which counted some more than 60.
Martin Dumollard was then recognized assassin of many young women, but it is possible that it made other assassinations without one being able to prove it. He was condemned to died and was carried out on the public place of Montluel, on March 8th, 1862. His wife was condemned to 20 years of forced labors.
A cross was set up with the memory of the victims of this assassin. It was located in a wood not far from the street of Mollard at Dagneux, but was not preserved, and disappeared today.
