Marseillan (Occitan Massilhàn ) is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Since December 31st, 2002, it belongs to the Communauté of agglomeration of the Basin of Thau. Its inhabitants is called Marseillanais.

Geography

Marseillan is a village of the Languedoc, located between the towns of Sète and Agde, and which belongs to the communes which border the pond of Thau. The village counts officially 7.734 inhabitants in ordinary time, but largely sees its population increasing during the summer period (it is multiplied by more than 10 and reached 60.000 inhabitants during this period of the year).

From its proximity with the pond of Thau, its charm, and the existence of the Seaside resort of Marseillan-Beach in seaside (many Camp-site S), Marseillan is a commune which likes to receive the visitors.

It is also in Marseillan (with the locality " Onglous") that the Channel of the South, created by Pierre-Paul Riquet and connecting the Atlantic Ocean to the the Mediterranean, is thrown in the pond of Thau, last stage of its long voyage through France.
