MARPOL (of Navy Pollution: marine pollution) is the name of a International convention concerning the Pollution of the sea, elaborate within the framework of the international maritime Organization (OMI).

History

Convention OILPOL of 1954 (International Convention for the Prevention off Pollution off the Sea by Oil) is not enough obviously, of the successive shipwrecks push the international community to be reacted. From there for the prevention from pollution by the ships of the November 2nd 1973 was born International convention supplemented by the protocol of 1978, said MARPOL , or MARPOL 73/78.
