Maroua
With its 272.000 inhabitants, Maroua is among the first five cities of the Cameroun. It is the chief town of the province of Extreme-North and the department of the Diamaré. Located at the extreme north, the city presents a great contrast compared to the other cities of the South. Particularly, the populations are more accessible and more courteous. The town of Maroua is squared by large avenues bordered of trees which bring a little freshness to lower the high temperatures. The climate is dry and hot, almost semi desert. To avoid the effects of heat, the inhabitants fit themselves will samaras, open shoes in the shape of sandals, carried out with tanned leather.
Maroua especially famous for its artisanal activity and its grouillant is gone where attroupent themselves daily tanners, potters, tailors, tisserands and blacksmiths. Maroua has a purely Islamic culture, and the mosques are built a little everywhere in the city.
Les men is generally vêtus of boubous and of will gandouras, with a small chechia on the head, whereas the women are draped in multicoloured loincloths which they strongly roll up around the size. By place, certain women entirely cover veil, becoming thus nonidentifiable.
The artisanal center, located at the entry of the market gathers leather carpet, craftsman about fifty who propose on their displays of splendid objects, tablecloths of tables embroidered or woven with the hand, Turkish slippers, handbag in skin of crocodile, snake etc
From December to May, Maroua knows a great multitude of tourists going in the national parks of Waza (located at a few 120 km from there) and of Kalamaloué, or towards the beautiful sites of Rhumsiki, Djinglya, or of the collar of Koza, other high place of the craft industry.
