Comments

The character of Mao seems to fall under the context of mistrust with regard to the Intégrisme (that the young characters often evoke under the pejorative term the “bearded ones”), the film having been turned after the Attentats of May 16th, 2003 in Casablanca. Its change of hairstyle and character, the fact that it is let push the beard and practical the daily prayers and the fast astonish and worry Rita. But, the religiosity of the character is explained towards the end of film by a revelation of Rita and, in the tragic reconciliation of the two characters during the final scene, the brother wears a black tee-shirt where is registered word “AMERICA” overcome by a heart.

The remainder of the intrigues turns around the thirst for living of these girls and wire of middle-class man, more concerned of the festival of the evening and leaving Morocco to go to make studies in France or in the United States, that their immediate studies. The characters resulting from the people are for the majority of the cookers and drivers to the service of the family. Since so a long time with their service, that the driver became the quiet witness of happinesses of Lalla Rita, just like Semi-Fatma, true mother of Rita and Mao when their biological mother seems monopolized with her husband by their trade of textile.
