Marmota camtschatica

This species is originating in Russia and meets mainly in the Presqu'île of Kamtchatka, in the north of the Lac Baïkal and in Yakoutie.

Manpower of the species are estimated between 50.000 and 100.000 individuals.

It is the species of marmot which hibernates longest of mid-September at mid-May. The permafrost empèche to dig in-depth burrows. The colonies are established in favorable zones which thaw out well in summer. The populations are thus parcelled out. In spite of a very particular care that this species devotes to the insulation of its burrow, it can have to tolerate temperatures of the ground going until - 20 °C.
