Marlène Dietrich (in German: Marl' e' Dietrich) is not an actress, American singer, of German origin . It was born the December 27th 1901 with Berlin - Schöneberg, in Germany and died the May 6th 1992 with Paris in France. It was a time the MUSE of the scenario writer Josef von Sternberg.
Biography
Youth
Maria Magdalena Dietrich was born the December 27th 1901 with Berlin - Schöneberg, in the Leberstraße (formerly Sedanstraße ). It is the girl junior by Louis Erich Otto Dietrich, Prussian officer, and of Joséphine, born Felsing. His/her Elisabeth older sister was born in 1900. She loses her father, in 1908, when she is 7 years old. At 11 years, it contracts its two first names in Marlene.His/her mother remarie with Eduard von Losch, officer of cavalry, which adopts Elisabeth and Marlene. Marlene cultivates its gifts for the music and the song, but must however give up the violin following a wound of the wrist. She will play later of the Musical saw. His/her father-in-law is killed in his turn during the First World War, in 1916. From 1919 to 1921 it continues its studies as intern in Weimar.
Its artistic beginnings
It takes its first courses of theater near max Reinhardt in 1921. In 1922, she plays her first small roles with the theater, in particular with the Großes Schauspielhaus , and plays in reviews, like that of the Kurfürstendamm of Berlin, at the sides of the French high-speed motorboat Margo Lion. She obtains also minor roles with the cinema. Its first credited role is Lucy in “Tragedy of the love” of Joe May. It Marie on May 17th, 1923 with Rudolf Sieber and gives rise to her daughter Maria Elisabeth Sieber, on December 13rd, 1924. She records her first songs, in particular “ Es liegt in der Luft ” (1928).In 1929, it turns its first big role in “the enigma”. Noticed by Josef von Sternberg, this one recommends it to the Paramount, whose Berliner office an actress seeks to make part with the myth of Greta Garbo, launched by the Subway Goldwin Mayer.
The celebrity
In 1930, it becomes famous with the film the blue Angel of Josef von Sternberg and in particular the song “ Ich bin von Kopf (a) Fuß auf Liebe eingestellt ” (“I am made to like head with the feet”, translated into English by “Falling in again coils”, and taken again many times). Turned in the studios of the Ufa in Babelsberg, this film, which joins together Emil Jannings, in the role of Professor Immanuel Rath, and Marlène Dietrich, in that of Lola Lola, is the first talking film about the German cinema. It transforms this still unknown actress, with the platinized hair, out of star with at the same time bewitching and frozen charisma. The evening of the first, in Gloria Palast, on April 1st, 1930, it raises a long white fur coat, tightens a sheaf of pinks in the arms and relates to its dress, a bouquet of violets pinned… where the women never put any. At 11 p.m., Marlène takes the train at the station of Lehrter, towards the port of Bremerhaven and the boat for New York. It indeed leaves to turn “Morocco” ( Cœurs flarings ) to the United States, film which will be worth to him a nomination with the Oscar S.Fleeing the mode Nazi, it becomes citizen of the the United States of America in 1937. enthusiastic Anti-Nazi, it sings for the American and British troops stationed with the the United Kingdom, then follows them to France during the release campaign. With the Release of Paris, it finds Jean Gabin, which was his/her lover, and who took part in the countryside as a chief of tank at the 2nd squadron of the regiment armor-plated marine fusiliers. The shortly after the war, its career is with lowest. It appears in minor films like the Large Alibi (1950) of Hitchcock or the Angel of cursed the (1952) of Fritz lang.

A second career

It is thus attacked with Wiesbaden by an young girl who spits to him with the face. She affirms then by way of press that she will not return any more in her native land and that from now on, “ she and the Germans do not speak any more the same language ”. After a fall in an orchestra pit at the time of a round in Australia in 1975, Marlene Dietrich withdraws scene definitively. She will live recluse in her apartment of the Montaigne avenue, with Paris, until her death.
She dies in Paris, the May 6th 1992. The ceremony takes place with the church of the Madeleine. She is then buried, according to her wishes, not far from her mother in the small cemetery of Friedenau, Stubenrauchstraße in Berlin-Schöneberg.
His/her daughter and her single child, become by her marriage Maria Rivetted, wrote a biography noticed on her mother. In 1983, the Swiss realizer Maximilian Schell had devoted documentary to him preceded to the Cannes festival, heading “Marlene”, in which the actress reconsiders her life without to appear in person.
Berlin after having practically driven out it, request of the posthumous excuses and dedicates to him the place Marlene Dietrich in the modern district of the Potsdamer Platz , near the Museum of Film of Berlin.
