Markland is the name given to an unknown ground, discovered by Leif Ericsson when it explored North America. Markland means: “ground of the trees”. It is supposed that this ground is the Labrador. Ericsson cut there trees and brought them to the Greenland because one does not find a tree in Greenland.

The Scandinavians never settled there.
