Marjane Satrapi

Marjane Satrapi مرجانساتراپی|the first name decides /mar-dj ass in Iran, and /mar-jane/ in France (born the November 22nd 1969 with Rasht, Iran) is an author of Cartoon (Scénariste and dessinatrice) of Iranian origin and French-speaking expression.

Biography

Born in 1969 in a progressist family from Teheran, it saw, as a child, the growing restriction of the individual Liberté S and the consequences in the daily life of the political events of the time, particularly the Islamic revolution and the beginnings of the Guerre Iran-Iraq.

In 1983, to the 14 years age, it is sent by his/her parents to Vienna, in Austria to flee the war and the Iranian mode. She had already studied with the French Lycée of Teheran. She continues her school course with the French College of Vienna, then turns over to Iran in order to follow higher learning. She leaves then to France and fact the studies to the University decorative arts Strasbourg. She currently resides at Paris.

Its meeting with David B. mark a turning in its life, since it is him which gave him the passion of the cartoon. Their graphic styles are particularly close besides, in particular in the first books of Marjane. As of its first work, the first volume of Persépolis , it meets a critical and commercial success, which continued thereafter. In 2003, it publishes Broderies , named in the category of the better album with the Festival of Angouleme 2004. Finally, its last book, Poulet with the plums appear in 2004 crowned this time by the price of the best album.

Between 2005 and 2007, it realizes, in partnership with Vincent Paronnaud, the adaptation of its autobiographical cartoon Persépolis longitudinally measuring of animation in black and white, left on June 27th 2007. Member of the official selection, it is projected with the Cannes festival 2007. On this occasion, the Islamic Republic of Iran worried about see the selection of this film presenting what it finds being “ an unreal table of the consequences and successes of the Islamic revolution ”. The film obtains the price of the jury of the festival.
