Marius Vazeilles
Marius Vazeilles , born on July 29th 1881 with Messeix (Puy-de-Dôme), dead on June 7th 1973 with Meymac (Corrèze), was expert Forestier, Syndicaliste and Archéologue.
Wire of a Forester, left major the forest School of the Bars, it was initially training Instituteur with Saint-Save-in Auvergne, then between 1911 and 1912, it occupies the general guardroom of the Eau X and Forêt S with Mauriac. In 1913, it is detached with the service of the agricultural improvements and settles in Meymac.
Pendant the Guerre, it is mobilized and it is in 1915 that it is detached from the army, on the intervention of Henri Queuille to emphasize the Plateau of Millevaches. It indexes in a detailed way this area and in 1917 it publishes its work Development of the Plate of Millevaches , which remains still one of the fundamental works of the forest Aménagement and agricultural.
En 1919, it leaves the Administration of National Forestry Commission, becomes nursery gardener then forest expert with Meymac. It develops in Puy Chabrol the establishment of almost 400 new forest species (especially of the coniferous trees) unknown in the area and plants 38 hectares of arboretums.
Also impassioned Archeology, he becomes a specialist in the Gallic times, Gallo-Roman S and mérovingiennes of which he highlights the traces on the plate of Millevaches. He excavates inlassablement, class and publishes his discoveries which he gathers in perfectly indexed collections. The major part of its collections, fruits of more than 150 studies, are gathered with the Musée Marius Vazeilles following creation, in 1974, of the foundation Marius Vazeilles chaired initially by his/her daughter, Mrs. Marcelle Magné-Vazeilles. Its discoveries, which it until had placed there in its Jardin, were thus gathered in old the Abbaye Saint-Andrew de Meymac.
It was also militant convinced of the agricultural trade unionism within the French Communist party of 1924 with 1928. City council man Communist with Meymac, elected in 1936 appointed Popular front for the District of Custom, it organizes and directs the Socialist Federation of Corrèze and the National federation of the Hard-working Peasants. In spite of its dissension with the Pact germano-Soviet of 1939, it is interned by the Third Republic.
Henri Queuille, in spite of his political opposition, tries to make it release but without success. Marius Vazeilles disunites Communist party and will not militate any more.
