Maripasoula

Maripasoula is a common French, located in the department of the Guyana.

It is about the widest commune of France, like one of the least densément populated. As comparison, the commune is of size comparable with the area the Limousin.

The city is mainly populated people resulting from the ethnos group Boni. One also finds there Amerindian S, creole S, Brésil iens and Haiti ens.

History

  • 1947 : foundation of Maripa-Soula.

  • 1950 : becomes administrative center.
  • 1968 : set up in common under the name of Maripasoula.

Geography

A little in the south the borough Maripasoula, is the Amerindian villages of Antécume-Pata, Élahé and Kayodé (located in closed area).

Economy

The surroundings of Maripasoula are rich in sites of Orpaillage.

There exists a landing strip making it possible to connect Cayenne to Maripasoula.
