Mario Dumont

Mario Dumont (born with Cacouna (River-of-Wolf) on May 19th, 1970) is a politician Québécois. He is Député of River-of-Wolf to the National Assembly of Quebec, chief of the democratic Action of Quebec and chief of the Official opposition to the National Assembly of Quebec.

Biography

Mario Dumont obtains a baccalaureat in economy of the Université Concordia, with Montreal, in 1993. He is elected Député with the National Assembly under the banner adequist in the district of River-of-Wolf to the elections of 1994, 1998 and 2003 and that of 2007.

He was president of the Commission-youth of the Liberal party of Quebec, until he leaves the party following the rejection of the Rapport Allaire. He plays a central role, with the liberal minister Jean Allaire, in the foundation and the development of the democratic Action of Quebec after the election of 1989. He succeeds Allaire as a chief of the party after the resignation of this one for health reasons.

He was in the camp of Yes with the referendum of 1995 on the sovereignty of Quebec. After the defeat of Yes, he asked for a moratorium of ten years on the behavior of a referendum on the Québécois national question and worked out the platform Autonomiste of the ADQ.

Politician of center-right, it put on a greater autonomy of Quebec within the Canadian federation (to affirm itself without separating) and of the areas of Quebec. Several of its political measurements imply a reduction of the size of the State, a regionalization of the responsibilities and budgets and a greater freedom for the companies and the citizens.

It defended freedom of expression at the time when CHOI - FM was threatened of closing by CRTC. According to some, this support would have allowed the election of Sylvain Légaré in the district of Basket maker, in the area of Quebec. Curiously, its popularity and that of its party are always also large in this area as in other areas of the east of Quebec and this, in spite of the disappearance of the traditional waves of the organizer Jeff Fillion.

In the debate on the reasonable compromises, it gave an opinion by denouncing what it calls of unreasonable compromises . Its election platform for the Québécois general elections of 2007 includes/understands the introduction of a Québécois constitution in which they would be enchased common values of the Inhabitants of Quebec .
