Mario Alinei
Mario Alinei , born in 1926, Italian linguist , professor emeritus of the university of Utrecht, in the past president of the Atlas Linguarum Europae and founder of the Quaderni di semantica , is one of the principal detractors with Colin Renfrew of the model Indo-European invasionnist, to which he proposed an alternative (the Théorie of paleolithic continuity). He is also specialist in language Etruscan and defends the existence of a bond between this language and the Magyar of Hungary.
The Theory of paleolithic continuity
Mario Alinei points a series of weaknesses in the model invasionnist, in particular the absence of determining archaeological evidence, ideological compromising and the fact that this model would be single in the world. On the basis of these weaknesses, it stipulates, like made Renfrew, its disability and by there the need for seeking an alternative to him.Discussed in the academic world, the theory of the paleolithic continuity of which he is the author, suggests a linguistic differentiation between the languages of Europe not posterior, but former to the Neolithic era. It goes until implicitly giving in doubt the existence, or in any case the importance, of a family of Indo-European languages while declaring in particular: “More important is the fact that Renfrew showed than Neolithic terms common to many Indo-European languages can be regarded as loanwords. ”
It also suggests that differentiation between the languages of Europe took place with the Mesolithic .
