Marine mammal

The expression marine mammal indicates various species of Mammifère S attending the Mer. It does not indicate, strictly speaking, a unit taxinomic quite precise.

Like the terrestrial mammals, their breathing is air, and they cannot survive without returning to breathe on the surface. Moreover, they have the hot blood (homéotherme or endothermic), carry their small in their belly ( viviparous ) and nourish their small using udders (from where the mammalian name)

Interesting fact, in the group of the Cetacea, one finds the rorquals and the whales . The difference between these two terms lies in the fact that all the rorquals (blue, with bump, commun run, etc) have ventral furrows on the level of the throat, that the whales do not have.

A protected maritime space their is devoted in several places of the world. Let us mention in the Mediterranean: the Sanctuaire Pelagos results from an agreement signed in 1999 by France, Italy and Monaco for the protection of the marine mammals who attend it (Article: Pelagos) like in the estuary of the St. Lawrence in Quebec.
