Marine artillery

the marine artillery was created in 1645.

Nevertheless, the creation of Marine artillery goes back officially to February 16th, 1692 when two companies transfer the day in Brest and Toulon. A third was born in Rochefort in 1694. In 1761, there existed nine brigades of marine artillery to ground. In 1786, one sees appearing a " royal body of the gunners matelots". In 1792, the navy was equipped with two artillery regiments, it was the base of all the organization which we knew until 1900.

The marine artillery plays a paramount role in all the campaigns on sea, but also on ground. In 1795 the body was divided into seven half brigades with three battalions, it was consisted of the battalions of overseas, into 1803 the half-brigades were replaced by four regiments, 1st Brest, 2nd Genoa, Brest and Toulon, the 3rd Rochefort, the 4th Lorient. At each century the marine artillery regiments were present in all the conflicts of the sphere.

Currently, there remains the 1 {{er}}, the 3 {{E}} and the 11th regiment of marine artillery.
