Marina militare

The Marina militare is the Navy Italy, one of the four armies of the Republic. It was created under its current name in 1946.

It currently rests on five military bodies (statutory) different in addition to Stato Maggiore (staff):

  • Armi Navali (the body naval itself, which includes/understands the naval officers)
  • Corpo Sanitario (department of health)
  • Commissariato Militare Marittimo (service of the Commissariat of the navy)
  • Genio Navale (service of the naval genius)
  • Capitanerie di Oporto (the harbor offices of the ports and coastguard, in Italian Corpo delle Capitanerie di Oporto and Guardia will costiera ).

In addition to the many ships, submarines, and apparatuses of the Naval Aviation, it includes/understands also a force of unloading ( marine fusiliers ) which is formed of the prestigious regiment San Marco , heir to the traditions of the Marines (1713) and which includes/understands three principal modern ships (LPD): San Marco , San Giorgio and San Giusto . It is the component Amphibie Italian armed forces.

History

The origin of the Italian National marine goes back to that of the navy Piedmont ease which was hardly developed because of the enclavement of the Duché of Savoy (and principality of Piedmont). Of course, the old maritime republics, duly recalled in its current house, have a tradition much older and more developed than that of wedged Piedmont. It is only with the acquisition of the Royaume of Sardinia that this State had to protect its coasts, between Nice, Oneille and Loano and remote the Sardinia, in particular of the Moorish attacks , most of the time in the form of acts of Piraterie. It is the admiral Giorgio Of Geneys, born with Chaumont on April 29th 1761 which is regarded as the true founder of the Sardinian Marine (its name of then). Enlisted to 12 years like guardiamarina di 2a class , the maritime force of Piedmont was limited then to only one small frigate (the San Carlo , 32 guns and 230 men of crew), a felouque gross, a galéotte captured with pirates Tunisia NS and minor boats. Become vice-admiral in 1811, after having carried out all the wars, by ordering two small squadrons (22 officers, 46 officers marines, 117 sailors and 324 oarsmen then composed manpower of the navy). With the restoration Of Geneys became one of the Diplomate S which, to the Congrès of Vienna, contributed to make annex Genoa and the Ligurie with the Royaume of Sardinia as of 1814. This reinforcement enabled him to make arm two frigates ( Commercio di Genova and Maria Teresa , 64 guns), of the frigate Maria Cristina (44 guns), of the corvette Tritone (22 guns), of the brigantin Nereide (14 guns) in addition to goélettes and small boats. To this fleet, he added four half-galères, certainly exceeded but useful to give hunting to the felouques Moorishes. He founded the Regia Scuola di Marina (the royal Naval college) in 1816 which is the ancestor of current the Accademia naval of Leghorn. In 1822, a squadron of three modern frigates, under its command, crossed in the the Western Mediterranean while wetting in the ports of Tunis, Algiers and Tangier what allowed the signing of commercial contracts with the Morocco and the Ottoman Empire. In 1825, it orders the forwarding of Tripoli what will lead to a new triumph and prevents piracy in the Mediterranean. The admiral, count and baron Of Geneys died the January 3rd 1839 with Genoa.
