Happy Marie of the Incarnation was born on October 28th, 1599 and died on April 30th, 1672. Mystical Ursuline of Turns and Quebec.

Its remarkable writings and its work of missionary at the 17th century do of them one of these women who knew to assert themselves in a company and a Church which left them little place.

Biography

It was born with Tours, under the name of Marie Guyart, probably street of the Tanners.

At the 7 years age it had a mystical first grace which led it to be given to the Christ. His/her parents did not include/understand his aspiration with the religious life and married it at 17 years with the master craftsman in Soie Claude Martin. From their union on April 2nd 1619 is born Claude. Six months later it becomes widowed at 19 years whereas the small factory is in bankruptcy.

In 1625, the mystical graces lead it to the union with the Christ.

January 25th, 1631, it enters to the convent of the Ursulines of Turns.

In 1639 it leaves with two other Ursulines to found a monastery with Quebec for the instruction of the small Indians (Iroquois be). She is associated with the life of the small French colony. Without it and his/her partners, small the founded colony French with Quebec, in 1608, would have held out with difficulty.

She dies of exhaustion on April 30th, 1672 with Quebec.

Notoriety

Bossuet proclaimed it the “Therese” of News-France.

Henri Bremond contributed to its growing popularity since a quarter century.

It is béatifiée by the pope Jean-Paul II in 1980.

Today it arouses the interest of many people and groups. Research teams devote themselves to the study as of its writings. Its spiritual figure, its human density and its psychological solidity continue to fascinate the contemporaries.
