Marie Raymond
Marie Raymond , born in 1908 at the Colle-sur-Loup in the VAr is a painter Frenchwoman. She died in 1989 in Paris.
Biography
Exit of the provincial middle-class - his/her father was pharmacist with Nice - Marie Raymond discovered his vocation for painting by visiting the workshop of Alexandre Stoppler, a painter installed with Cagnes, village adored of the artists and attended per number of them. Marie, any young person still, begins while coming from time to time to work " on the motif" near him. In 1925, it becomes acquainted with a young Dutch painter, Fred Klein (Fred Klein) installed not far from there, with Goulette. In 1926 the two young person artists marry and will live in Paris, with Montparnasse, in the same building as Piet Mondrian, painter Dutch him too.
April 28th, 1928, their son Yves (Yves Klein), is born with Nice where it will remain until in 1930 pennies the benevolent guard of his large parents and his aunt, Rose. Fred and Marie then lead to Montparnasse the life of Bohemia of the young desilvered artists. They meet other artists: Jacques Villon (the brother of Marcel Duchamp); Frantisek Kupka, one of the initiators of the abstract art and naturally Mondrian. In 1931, Klein are established with the baby with Fontenay-Aux-Roses, but for little time since in 1932, they return in the family, in Nice where Marie takes courses at the School of Decorative Arts of Nice with in particular the abstract sculptor Emile Gilioli.
In 1936-37, Klein again try to return in the capital, but for lack of average finaciers they turn over in the South. Marie obtains despite everything a order to decorate with the International exhibition with 1937, the house of the the Alpes-Maritimes. In 1938, it is for Klein a short stay in Paris (street of Assas), until the war brings back them to Cagnes. In this village and around, with Fatty for example, many artists already took refuge: Geer van Velde, Hans Arp and Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Sonia Delaunay, Alberto Magnelli, Ferdinand Springer… Marie Raymond, whose painting until there primarily consisted of figurative landscapes, starts, in 1941-42, to paint " landscapes imaginaires".
Abstract period
In 1943, the family sets out again for Paris, street of Assas, where they live the joys of the Libération. Marie who worked much takes part in 1945 in her first great exposure to the Living room of Surindépendants. She is fixed on the sides of Hartung, Dewasne, Jean Deyrolle, Gerard Schneider… Bientôt they expose together, in March 1946, under the title " Young painting abstraite" in the gallery of Denise Rene, street Boëtie in Paris. In April, Marie exposes with Serge Poliakoff and Engel Pak to the Research center of Abstract art in Paris. In July, with the 1st Living room of New Realities. In 1947, it takes part in two exposures at Denise Rene and the 2nd Living room of New Realities. In 1949, Marie obtains, with Chapoval, the Price Kandinsky and present at the gallery of Beaune " Gouaches of Marie Raymond".
In 1951, it exposes, with Arp|Arp, Doméla, Magnelli, Poliakoff. , under the crook of Denise Rene, with the road show: " Klar Form-20 artists of the School of Paris " , with Copenhagen, Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Liege… In 1952, it is selected for the Salon of May. She interviews Matisse for a Japanese review, visits the Italy with her husband. The money still does not run with floods but Klein are more at ease and receive much on their premises. Many artists or galerists come to pass the evening in their residence which thus sees ravelling Colette Allendy, Iris Clert, Pierre Soulages, Raymond Hains, François Dufrêne, Villeglé, César, Ionesco, Tinguely, Hartung, Nina Kandinsky, criticisms Charles Estienne, Pierre Restany, Georges Boudaille… In 1953, Klein expose for three days to the Institute free-Japanese of Tokyo, on the initiative of their son, and in Bridgestone Gallery of Tokyo and Marie is entitled to a personal exposure to the Museum of Art modern of Kamakura. In 1955, Marie takes part in many exposures: at Denise Rene, with Lausanne, Amsterdam. In 1957 in Stedelijk Museum, in Amsterdam, an exposure is held: “Marie Raymond”.
But its couple beats wing and Marie and Fred separate in 1958, then divorce in 1961. Painful years marked by the death of his/her son, Yves Klein, mown in full youth by an heart attack on June 6th, 1962; the death of his/her father in 1963. Marie exposes nevertheless to the Cavaléro gallery with Cannes in 1963; with the gallery Ogee moulding in Paris in 1966; in Brussels. Marie at that time puts herself to paint very large sizes. In 1972 a great exposure is devoted to him like to his/her son to the Castle-Museum of Cagnes-sur-Mer. Marie Raymond dies in Paris in November 1989.
