Marie Gérin-Lajoie
Marie Gérin-Lajoie (June 9th, 1890 in Quebec - January 7th, 1971 in Quebec) was a Québécois feminist.
Born with Montreal, she knows the transformations of the industrial time, which returns the nation thrives while digging the inequalities. His/her mother was Marie Lacoste-Gérin-Lajoie, it also a feminist.
Feeling a religious vocation, she also wishes to defend oppressed, especially the women. Entered the Notre-Dame Congregation of Montreal, it obtains a baccalaureat are arts in 1911 with the Université of Montreal, becoming the first Québécois one then to obtain a diploma at this university.
It founds the Institut Our-Lady-of-Good-Council in 1923 and the association of the assistance-housewives in 1933. In 1940, it militates for the female vote with Therese Casgrain.
UQAM has a room Marie Gérin-Lajoie in her honor. The Prix Marie-Gérin-Lajoie is also given in its honor.
