Marie Etienne de Barbot
Marie Etienne de Barbot , baron then Viscount, born with Toulouse the April 2nd 1770 and died in the same city the February 16th 1839.
Biography
Second lieutenant then Captain of pomegranates in the National guard of Toulouse, captain in a battalion of Volunteers of the Haute-Garonne in September 1791 then Lieutenant-colonel in 1792. It makes in 1792 the Campagne of Savoy, then in 1793, it attends the Siège of Toulon.It makes then the Campagne of Spain and takes share with the Affaire of the Bolt, with the Siège of Saint-Elme, the battles of the mountain Noire (1794) and with the Siège of Pinks. The talents and the bravery which it deploys in him are worth the rank of Chef of brigade.
As return in France, chief of staff of one subdivision to the Armed with the West in 1795, it is used some time in the Vendée. Soon it leaves for the the Antilles in quality chief of staff the general Lagarde, and announces by the Prise Reed, capital of the Dominique.
In 1807, Napoleon i, irritated against the town of Hersfeld, whose people were shown to have assassinated a French detachment, orders that thirty of the inhabitants are shot, and charges Barbot with this execution. This one being convinced of the innocence of the inhabitants of Hersfeld, disobeys the orders of the Emperor; and for better ensuring the success of its disobedience, it writes his report/ratio as if the thirty indicated victims had been carried out.
It serves in Spain in 1808 - 1811. In 1808, the baron Barbot turns over in Spain, takes share with the businesses of Rio-Seco, of Burgos, Corogne, Braga, Oporto, Busaco, Sabuyal, Alméida, after which it is promoted with the Brigadier general rank of . It takes part in the Bataille of Arapiles in 1812.
It returns in France with the marshal Soult, is upon all the engagements which take place close to the the Pyrenees, and is announced to the battles of Toulouse.
When one learns the unloading from Napoleon to the Golfe Juan, it receives the higher command of Bordeaux. With the re-entry of the king, it is named lieutenant-general, Chevalier of Saint-Louis and commander of the Légion of honor. It is useful thereafter as general inspector of the infantry.
Admitted with the retirement in 1835, it dies in Toulouse the February 16th 1839.
