Georges Calvès (1848-1924), the father of Marie, is a Parisian painter, member of the Company of the French Artists. He likes the countryside and the pastoral life, which inspire it regularly and varied. He represents any kinds of rural scenes: work in the fields, shepherdesses and sheep, horses, loggers,… It is also a reason for him to leave Paris for the countryside. His wife being of origin haut-marnaise, it is probably what leads it to settle in the Soncourt-on-Marne, where it buys the field of the Amounts, and where Marie will grow and live.

Marie Calvès seems to have shown very young of the talents in painting, profiting of more than teaching of her father. She is noticed with the living room of the French Artists in 1895, that is to say at the twelve years age, where she obtains a money medal. The influence of his/her father makes it begin in the pastoral scenes, with initially the representation of horses and sheep. But Marie is diverted some quickly to be interested in the dogs, painting them driving out, resting at fire, etc

Member of the Company of the French Artists, it makes sendings each year, of 1899 to 1938, and gained several prices.

Marie Calvès does not work only with her rest, it carries out drawings for reviews and exposures of hunting, hunting and dogs. Its open are quickly familiar to the stockbreeders and with the hunters. Indeed it quickly forges a name simultaneously with that of her father and after the death of this last in 1924, it continues to reside and maintain the field the Amounts in the Soncourt-on-Marne, where it dies in 1957.
