Marie Arena

Biography

Marie Arena studied the economy with the catholic university Facultés of Mons: she is laid off in economic scenes since 1988. After several last years within the services of FOREM, it has in 1999 to occupy a station of Adviser within the cabinet of the Minister Michel Daerden, responsible for Employment, the Formation and Housing. In the month of April 2000, its political career makes fulgurating great strides when the president of the Socialist party, Elio Di Rupo entrusts the above mentioned morocco to him.

Marie Arena will occupy the post of minister of the Use and the Formation of the Walloon Government until 2003 before joining the federal government in the capacity as Minister in charge for the Public office, Social integration, the Big cities, the intercultural Dialog and Equal opportunity.

With leaving the regional elections of the month June 2004 and negotiations which took place as for the formation of the new executives of the federated entities, it will be named at the post of Minister-President of the government of the French Community (the second woman to occupy this station after its socialist counterpart, Laurette Onkelinx). She is also in load of obligatory teaching and the social advancement. She enters, at the same time, with the Walloon government with the wallet of the formation.

To the communal elections of the October 8th 2006, Marie Arena presents top of the list of the Socialist party of Binche: its party reaches, the December 15th 2006 in the majority, but not having collected the greatest number of voices within the PS, Laurent Devin becomes burgomaster

In November 2006, Marie Arena presents her plan to improve quality of the meals been useful in the school canteens: indeed, she proposes to resort to products of quality (of the bio when it is possible). The minister proposes the canteens where one has ideas and qualified chefs.

Opposed to the elitism in teaching, it suggests in February 2005 removing the Latin there courses (but without being able to arrive).

Following the cabinet reshuffles of July 19th, 2007, Marie Arena loses the wallet of the social advancement at the Community and leaves the Walloon Gouvernement, with the profit of Marc Tarabella.
