Elections and mobilizations

For the elections presidential and legislative of 2007, it engaged in the step of gathering antilibéral operated around approximately 700 local collectives in all France, and of organizations and personalities implied in the victorious campaign for “not left” to the project of Traité establishing a Constitution for Europe at the time of the referendum of May 29th, 2005, gathered within the National collective of initiative for a gathering antilibéral of left and common candidatures (its party signed the call of May 11th, 2005). Candidate with the nomination of the collectives, it was placed at the head by the majority of those during their consultation, in spite of the dispute of adversaries for which the Communist party would have carried out a “takeover by force” while trying “to adapt” the collectives. The methods of vote envisaged a “double consensus however” (within the collectives, then organizations). The December 10th, its candidature not being consensual among the organizations of the national collective, the gathering antilibéral was unable to designate a candidate.

PCF consulted its militants the December 20th on the maintenance or the withdrawal of the candidature of Marie-George Buffet. The militants of PCF decided, in an internal vote (with more than 81%) to present it “to carry the gathering antilibéral to the presidential election”. The following day, a National collective was held, noting that the dissension between the organizations recipients of the gathering persisted, and fascinating act that there would be no single-candidate election of the Gauche antilibérale with presidential of 2007 (but certain collectives make since the choice support the countryside of Marie-George Buffet).

Marie-George Buffet declares the December 22nd on television: “I return to shift”, then puts on leave direction of PCF the January 4th 2007. Thus, she affirms not to present herself as a candidate of only PCF, but like the candidate of a “popular assembly and antilibéral”, leaving the open door to the other organizations. She will take as slogans, during her countryside: “To better live, there is right there”, then " A courageous left, that changes the life! " and " April 22nd, the vote of left: Marie-George Buffet".

It is replaced by a collective of direction of five people, the time of the countryside: from a point of view of gathering, the goal was to widen beyond the only communist electorate. The January 5th 2007, it makes its statement of candidature in a school of its district of the Blanc-Mesnil, in the presence of militants of PCF but also of trade unionists (Didier Le Reste, Jean-Paul Israel) and militant associations (Mouloud Aounit, president of MRAP, Camille Barré, militant LGBT).

It finally largely obtained sponsorships necessary, as well as the official support of almost 5.000 town councilors. It thus stands as candidate to the presidential election of 2007

The April 22nd 2007, after a campaign concentrated on the need for creating a majority and a government carrying a project truly on the left (its program ambitionnait in particular a general rise of the wages, new democratic public services, a security of employment and formation allowing to finish some with unemployment, the regularization of without-papers, a Life Republic, etc), it is credited with 1,93% of the voices to the first turn, that is to say the worst score ever recorded by PCF. Re-elected national secretary of PCF by a National council on April 24th, it takes the initiative to propose the behavior of an Extraordinary congress before the end of the year, so that the whole of the Communists can raise the questions of the role, the utility and the aiming of the Communist party today.
