Marie-Eugenie of Jesus

Holy Marie-Eugenie of Jesus , born Anne-Eugenie Milleret de Brou (Metz, August 26th 1817 - Paris, March 10th 1898), is a French catholic nun, founder of the apostolic congregation of the Religieuses of the Assumption. It was béatifiée in 1975, then canonized by the Pope Benoit XVI on June 3rd 2007. She is celebrated the March 10th, day of her death.

Biography

Born in 1817 in an easy family not practicing, she is educated all the same in the Catholic religion. She passes her childhood between the private mansion of her parents to Metz and the castle of Preisch, near the Luxembourg border. She makes her first communion in 1829. His/her parents separate in 1830. His/her mother dies in 1832 of the cholera in Paris, and it is collected by friendly rich person with Chalons-sur-Marne. She is detached then from the religious practice. Of return to Paris, at the request of her father, it converts in 1836 following a preaching of Lent in the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris.

It meets the abbot Theodore Combalot in 1837, and informs him of its desire to enter the religious life. It is formed at the Bénédictines of the Blessed Sacrament in Paris then with the Visitation of the Coast-Saint-Andre in Isere. At 21 years, it founds the congregation of the Religieuses of the Assumption in April 1839.

It enters under the spiritual direction of the Père of Alzon as from 1841 whereas it is higher. It makes perpetual profession with Christmas 1844, and will be deposited of its load in 1894, at the 77 years age. Little by little completely immobilized by the paralysis, she dies the March 10th 1898 at the 80 years age.

Spirituality

Marie-Eugenie Milleret gave for program to her congregation this sentence of the Our Father: “ that your reign comes ”. For it, the Kingdom is a way of life. Its educational project is double: on the one hand, the reign of God, creator and end of any thing, on the other hand, a Christian company in which God would be recognized, loved and been useful. It attaches a great importance to the formation of the intelligence in the light of the faith. “ the education, suggested by Marie-Eugenie, aims at the transformation of all the person and supports freedom

Recognized miracle

In February 1995 was born in Philippines, a little girl, Risa Bondoc, reached of a syndrome of Nystagmus following a malformation of the left hemisphere of the brain. Its future is dark, it will not go, will never speak, and will be blind. His/her parents then make him carry a relic of Marie-Eugenie de Milleret. One year later, the diagnosis is confirmed. His/her parents then take it along to the general House of the Nuns of the Assumption to Paris, it is lengthened on the tomb of Marie-Eugenie from whom her cure was requested. Today, Risa Bondoc hears, sees, studies with the Assumption College of Manila.

The pope Benoît XVI recognized on December 16th 2006 the validity of this miracle, and the canonization of Marie-Eugenie was marked on June 3rd, 2007.
