Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesle

Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesle , marchioness of the Small tower, duchess of Chateauroux , is a Favori you of Louis XV born in Paris the October 5th 1717 and died in Paris the December 8th 1744.

Fifth girl of Louis III of Mailly-Nesle (1689 - 1767), marquis de Nesle, and of its wife Armande Félice of the Door Mazarin (1691 - 1729) (itself grand-daughter of Hortense Mancini and back-small-niece of Mazarin), Marie-Anne de Mailly-Nesle marries in 1734 the marquis Louis of the Small tower (1708 - 1740). His/her older sister Louise Julie de Mailly-Nesle, countess of Mailly, had been the mistress of Louis XV of 1737 with 1739. She was then replaced near the king by her younger sister, Pauline Félicité on Mailly-Nesle, marchioness of Vintimille. Mrs. de Vintimille died in 1741, and the king took as Maîtresse in title, in December 1742, the marchioness of the Small tower, sister of the two preceding ones, pushed by the marshal of Richelieu and Mrs. de Tencin. He titrated it duchess of Chateauroux (1743) and returned his older sister of the court (November 3rd 1742).

Become favorite titrates some and constant by the duke of Richelieu, it was some time all-powerful with Versailles and the USA of its influence to involve France in the War of succession of Austria and to persuade the King to go to conquer glory on the battle fields in Flanders and Alsace. Louis XV authorized it to join it in the Flandres in June 1744. In August, it fell seriously sick to Metz. It solved repentance and to return its mistress to Paris.

Nevertheless, after his re-establishment, the King took again their connection. The place of surintendante of the house of the Dauphine was promised with Mrs. de Châteauroux, but the latter was not long in dying of a Péritonite. This death appeared suspect with certain which spoke, without evidence, of poisoning.

One published in 1806 two volumes of letters which are allotted to Mrs. de Châteauroux. Sophie Gay published a novel entitled the duchess of Chateauroux (1835).
