Marianne de Béquet

The Marianne de Béquet is a series of stamps French of everyday usage, emitted for the 0,50 red franc the January 2nd 1971 to replace the Marianne de Cheffer, and withdrawn from the sale the July 7th 1978 to leave room to the Sabine de Gandon.

This stamp carries on a plain bottom of color a small portrait of bearing Marianne Phrygian cap, the mentions “Stations” and “French Republic” and wholesale the facial value. The schedule of conditions obliged, because of recent changes of tariffs, that the various facial values are easily recognized by the post-office employees. The head of Marianne is thus more reduced than with the practice compared to the facial value.

Note: sometimes it arrives in the documentations created by philatelists that Béquet is badly spelled in Becquet.

Example of two values

The name of the artist appears only on the 0,50.

The 0,50 red franc was used for the Réunion with the sucharge “25 CFA franc”, then currency in force in this Overseas department.
