Marianne Faithfull

Marianne Faithfull (December 29th 1946 with London -) is a singer of British rock'n'roll and an actress.

Biography

Girl of a British officer and a related Austrian aristocrat to the Habsbourg, it is high in London until the divorce of her parents. She then follows her mother to Reading (Berkshire) and takes part, during her schooling, with the spectacles of “Progress Theater” of the city.

With the beginning of the year 1960, it occurs in coffees where it interprets traditional popular songs. Its meeting with the Rolling Stones, in 1964, will be determining. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards then writes the song As Tears Go By to him which launches its career. Then it connects with other successes like This Little Bird , Summer Nights and Sister Morphine .

In 1965, she marries the artist and director of Art gallery John Dunbar, and gives rise to their Nicolas child. The couple does not last a long time. Marianne leaves to settle with his/her son in the guitarist of Rolling Stones Brian Jones, whose partner is then the mannequin Anita Pallenberg, which initiates it with the Cannabis. She then starts with Mick Jagger a connection which will last several years while she starts to devote herself to the Héroïne, which will lead it to remain in the Coma after a Overdose.

After having interpreted its own character in Made in the USA of Jean-Luc Godard (1966), it begins in 1968 a career on the screens by playing in the Motor cycle , a Franco-British film where it gives the counterpart to Alain Delon. In 1969, it obtains the role of Ophélie in the adaptation of Hamlet of Nicol Williamson with Antony Hopkins.

Years 1970 and 1980

While separating from Mick Jagger, it stops the recordings and devotes to the hard drugs. It moves in with Dublin towards 1975 and records Dreaming my Dreams .

1979 mark its great return with the album Broken English which, although recognized by the amateurs, meets only one mitigated success. In the the Eighties, it also leaves Strange Weather (in 1987), which was its more important success of the decade.

Years 1990

The career evolves/moves for this period with the exit of Blazing Away and the rise on the boards with interpretations of parts of Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weill. The album The Seven Deadly Sins follows, like its interpretation in the Opera of quat' under. The album Twentieth Century Blues is well accommodated and results in many spectacles, relatively confidential, in cabarets.

In 1994, it publishes an autobiography: Faithfull . In 1995, Angelo Badalamenti composes the album to him has Secret Life and Marianne Faithfull also interprets a song of the original soundtrack of the film the City of the lost children composed by Badalamenti.

In 1997, it sings in the choruses on the song The Memory Remains of Metallica.

Dreaming my Dreams (1999) is a DVD with a biography of its childhood and vidéos tonic at 1964. It follows the evolution of its career with interviews and comments of artists having attended it (Rolling Stones and Keith Richards). The disc recalls also its personal life, with his/her husbands John Dunbar and Mick Jagger. In fence, one can see a 30 minutes concert.

Since 2000

It left Vagabond Ways and Kissin' Time (2002), with songs written by Beck, Billy Corgan, Blur, Jarvis Cocker and Etienne Daho. In this album, it pays homage to Nico ( Song for Nico ) while accepting the autodérision with Sliding Through Life one Charm .

In 2004, the exit of Before the Poison , in collaboration with PJ Harvey and Nick Undermines, was accommodated like a top by criticisms, but much regard Broken English as its most outstanding album and expressing best its personality.

It also appeared in the British Sitcom Absolutely Fabulous in the role of God. She also played, under the direction of Patrice Chéreau, in Intimité and also in the Girl on the bridge . It is it which interprets Marie-Therese of Austria in film of Sofia Coppola, Marie-Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst left in 2006. She holds as the role of a painter in the Short-measuring as Gus Van Sant carried out for the film Paris I love you (2006).
