Marian Anderson is a American Contralto born with Philadelphia the February 27th 1897 and deceased with Portland the April 8th 1993.
After difficult beginnings, its talent was universally recognized and she sang on several occasions under the direction of Arturo Toscanini. She excelled in the most varied kinds, of the negros spirituals where she could express the accents of her community of origin to the romantic Lied er and the Oratorio. She died out after a long career in 1993.
