The large-duchess Maria Alexandrovna ( Mariya Aleksandrovna Romanova , in Russian МарияАлекса́ндровнаРома́нова ) (born the October 17th 1853 and deceased the October 24th 1920) of the Russian imperial family was a member, become duchess of Edinburgh then duchess of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha. Very proud of its birth, the family legend tells that it mourrut after to be called Mrs Cobourg by a soldier.

Marriage

Girl of the tsar Alexandre II of Russia and of the princess Marie de Hesse and the Rhine, it married the January 23rd 1874 the prince Alfred, duke of Edinburgh, wire of the queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and the prince Albert of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha. Maria and Alfred had five children:

By her Marie daughter, Maria is the great-grandmother of the king Michel Ier of Romania and of the king Pierre II of Yugoslavia.
