Marguerite de Rothschild

Margaretha, known as Marguerite de Rothschild , duchess of Gramont, was born with Francfort-sur-le-Main the September 19th 1855 and died in Paris the July 25th 1905.

Biography

Girl of the baron Mayer Carl von Rothschild (1820 - 1886), of the branch known as of Naples, and Louise von Rothschild (1820 - 1894), of the branch known as of London (V. Family Rothschild), Marguerite de Rothschild converts with Catholicism in order to marry, against the opinion of her family, a catholic, the count de Liedekerke, who is killed shortly after at the time of a shooting party.

December 10th 1878, Marguerite de Rothschild marries with Paris, Agénor de Gramont (1851-1925), wire of Agénor de Gramont (1819-1880), duke of Gramont, former Foreign Minister of Napoleon III.

They had three children:

  • Antoine Agénor '' Armand '', duke of Guiche then duke of Gramont (1879 - 1962), which will marry Élaine Greffuhle;

  • Corisande (1880 - 1977, marchioness Hélie de Noailles);
  • Louis-Rene, count de Gramont (1883 - 1963).

With died on the baron Mayer Carl von Rothschild in October 1886, the mother of Marguerite and her six sisters decide to reinstate it in the succession: she inherits then 60 million gold franc. During several months, the family does not change anything with her way of life. In 1888, Gramont leave their apartment of the street François Ier for a private mansion with the Invalids, then for a vast hotel on the Fields-Élysées.

Marguerite de Gramont gives great festivals to it where presses the Saint-Germain Suburb and the Saint-Honore Suburb. She binds particularly with Mrs Straus and Mrs Meredith Howland.
