Marguerite de Foix (v. 1449-1486)

Marguerite de Foix , (born towards 1449, dead the May 15th 1486 with Nantes), was, by marriage, duchess of Brittany of 1474 with 1486.

Biography

It was the girl of Gaston IV of Foix-Béarn (1425 - 1472), count de Foix, and of Éléonore Ire of Navarre (v. 1426 - 1479), queen of Navarre.

The June 27th 1474, with Clisson, it married the duke of Brittany François II (1435 - 1488), wire of Richard of Brittany (1395 - 1438), count d' Étampes (1421 - 1438), and of Marguerite of Orleans (1406 - 1466), countess of Virtues (1423 -?). It acted for François II of a second marriage, his first Marguerite wife of Brittany having died in 1469.

Marguerite de Foix rests in the Cathédrale of Nantes, at the sides of her husband and Marguerite of Brittany, in a splendid tomb commonly called Tombeau of François II, masterpiece of the French sculpture at the dawn of the Rebirth.
