Margot Wallström

Margot Wallström is a political woman Swedish pertaining to the social democrat Parti. She belongs to the European commission since 1999.

Biography

Wallström is, after Anita Gradin, the second Swedish member of the European commission since the adhesion of its country to the European Union in 1995. Within the current Commission, it was selected by Jose Manuel Durão Barroso like First Vice-president in charge with the institutional relations and the communication strategy. It was member of the Groupe Amato, charged with preparing the drafting of the modifying Traité.

After having militated within the movement of the young social democrats in which she exerts responsibilities between 1974 and 1977, Margot Wallström becomes appointed social democrat Party with the Swedish Parlement of 1979 with 1985. It was also Minister for consumption, the women and youth (1988-1991), Minister for the culture (1994-1995) and Minister for the social affairs (1996-1998). It was also chairman of a regional television channel and vice-president of Worldview Global Media , an organization based with Colombo (Sri Lanka). Its first nomination at the European commission goes back in September 1999.

Had a presentiment of for the presidency of the social democrat Party which was to elect a new direction at the time of its Extraordinary congress of March 2007, convened after the historical defeat of the party to the legislative of September 2006, Margot Wallström declined the offer, preferring to continue its mandate within the European commission.

Mrs. Wallström is married in Håkan Wallström and has two fore-mentioned children Viktor and Erik.
