The village was born with the foot from a coast, between the chalky “plain”, which culminates to 101 m and the alluvial valley of the Oise, which drops to 33 Mr. the coast of Margny is due to a flexure, lowering of rather brutal axis, which makes plunge chalk of 80 m under Oise to go back to Compiegne before being inserted under the forest. This quite exposed slope, was favourable with the vine, but was replaced at the end of the XIXe century by orchards and gardens. To the foot of the flexure extends the major bed from Oise. The river was spread out there in several arms in the thick alluvia argilo-sand spreaders where the ground water levels in ponds and ponds. There was a large pond known as “of Margny”, located on the site of the park of the town hall, from where the current district of the ponds deserves its name. This prée marshy is always threatened by the floods, those of 1658,1784,1926,1993-94.

An iron cross was drawn up in the middle of the old bridge known as of Saint Louis and marked the change of jurisdiction. The old bridge rebuilt by Saint Louis crossed the river since the Gross Tower and was based, Right Bank on a kind of fears, known as boulevard, surrounded by ditches, which dominated prée of Margny. This prée was the theater of many tournaments and tournaments, and festivals of 1200 to 1410. It is on this same place that Jeanne d' Arc was captured in 1430.
Thus head of bridge strengthened in “boulevard”, which protected what was a long time the only permanent passage on the river between Pont-l'Ev4eque cheese and Holy Bridge Maxence, was before a a whole military zone.

The integrity of Margny was preserved until 1790, the revolution allowed the seizure of Compiegne on Small Margny.
