Margherita
The Margherita (complete name Margherita - Democrazia E Libertà ) is a Political party Italy N of center, democratic and social Christian liberal, founding member of the European Democratic party.
Elle belongs to the federation of Olivier ( Ulivo ) of which it constitutes one of the principal members since the February 26th 2005 (but before as an electoral alliance). It has as a symbol the daisy. It joins together at the same time Christian-Democrats (in particular those of the Partito Popolare Italiano (pi) of which the last congress, on March 8th, 2002 recommended to its members to support the new party), of the liberals and the laic social democrats - of I Democratici or of the Rinnovamento Italiano of Lamberto Dini.
The April 22nd 2007, at the time of its last congress, the party decided to dissolve and to be melted in new the Democratic party which will join together it with the Left Democrats.
Initially simple electoral initials, created in 2001, it then joined together pi (Partito Popolare Italiano), I Democratici, Rinnovamento Italiano and the UDEUR which was then detached (although some of its elected officials remained within the Marguerite). Since 2004, it also includes/understands members of Democrazia europea, a small part which with joined the UDC (Christian-Democrats of right-hand side), of which its leader Sergio D' Antoni ().
Known also under the name of Democrazia E Libertà (democracy, it is freedom, with pun untranslatable between structure which seems connected by conjunction - and - whereas it is well a in the same way pronounced verb - writing E - which connects the two terms), its federal statute was approved by the congress founder with Parma of the 22 with March 24th 2002, with the modifications approved by the federal Parliament of March 12th, 2004 and of April 1st, 2004. The 1st congress of Democracy is Liberté, which was held with Rimini from March 12th to 14th 2004, by approving this statute, confirmed its choice for a bipolar democracy and a frank choice in the center-left, like party founder of Olivier.
The president of the party is Francesco Rutelli, former mayor of Rome. The party is founding member of the European Democratic party (2004) with the Union for the French democracy. Previously, one found his appointed European within two different groups.
The parliamentary group of Margherita comprises 79 Député S (on 630) and 36 Senator S (on 315).
Franco Marini is the current president of the Senate.
