Margaret Smith Short

Margaret Smith Court (born Smith the July 16th 1942 with Albury, News-Wales-of-South) is an Australian player of Tennis , considered as one of largest of the history of the play.

Between 1959 and 1975, it gained sixty two titles of the Grand Slam:

  • twenty-four titles into simple in only forty seven participations. It is the absolute records, in front of Steffi Graf (twenty-two victories).
  • nineteen titles in double lady
  • nineteen titles in mixed double

In 1970, it carries out the Grand Slam into simple, performance only equalized by Maureen Connolly (in 1953, before the era Open) and Steffi Graf (in 1988). It counts also four Small slams, in 1962, 1965, 1969 and 1973.

With Doris Binder and Martina Navrátilová, it is one of the three players to have gained, each one at least once, the four tournaments of the Grand Slam, into simple, double ladies and double mixed.

It is member of the International Tennis Hall off Famed since 1979.
