Margaret Laurence
Margaret Laurence (born Jean Margaret " Peggy" Wemyss, the July 18th 1926 with Neepawa, Manitoba (Canada)) is a Canadian écrivaine of English language. His/her father was Robert Harrison Wemyss, lawyer, and his mother Verna Jean Simpson. His/her mother dies whereas it is only 4 years old (1930) and her father remarie then with the sister of the latter, Margaret Campbell Simpson, professor, then librarian. His/her father dies five years after his mother (1935).
" Peggy" , strongly encouraged towards the writing by his/her mother-in-law, starts then by writing articles for the " Black and Gold ", the newspaper of Neepawa Collegiate; she has surroundings 15 years.
Graduate of the secondary school ( High School in English) in 1944, it starts a Bachelor then off Arts with current the University off Winnipeg , B.A. which it obtains in 1947.
She marries John Fergus Laurence, the September 13rd 1947, with the church of Neepawa. She spends some time to Africa and England before her return to Canada.
Its work explores the topics of the place of the individual, especially the woman, in the Canadian-English company. Several of its novels are related to the imaginary village of Manawaka in Manitoba, although the characters are scattered of Vancouver ( The Fire Dwellers ) in Ontario ( The Diviners ).
Attack of a Lung cancer it commits suicide in its house the January 5th 1987.
