Mareuil-the-Meaux is a common French, located in the department of Seine-et-Marne and the area Île-de-France.
Its inhabitants is called Mareuillois.
Geography
The village occupies a surface of 717 ha, being next to the channel of Chalifert and the Marne on a side, and the highway A 4 of the other.It doubled its population (without double accounts within the meaning of INSEE) between the censuses of 1982 and 1999: 872 inhabitants then 1.579.
In strong extension of the activities since the beginning of the Years 1980, the village constitutes a commercial pole benefitting from the proximity of the town of Meaux. The locality is member of the Communauté of agglomeration of the Country of Meaux since its creation in January 2003.
History
Commune of Seine-et-Marne which goes back to the Moyen-âge (how the municipal files of registry office attest some), Mareuil-the-Meaux had, with the XIXe and beginning of the 20th centuries, a chalk pit, main activity of the village.

Famous characters
The abbot Petitot (missionary and anthropologist near the Inuit S of the Arctic ) there passed the end of his life like priest of parish and wrote there the majority of his works of memories. he died there in 1916.
