Mareil-on-Mauldre

Mareil-on-Mauldre is a common French located in the department of the Yvelines and in the area Île-de-France.

Geography

Mareil-on-Mauldre is on the edges of the Mauldre to 40 km in the west of Paris and to approximately 2,5 km in the south of Maule.

The territory of the commune extends in the valley from Mauldre to 35 m from altitude approximately and overflows on the surrounding plates, in particular towards south-east in extreme cases western of the Plaine of Versailles.

The old borough is in the content of the valley on both sides of the river, while the recent urbanization was carried out on the plate in the south-east of the commune, with the Lotissement of the “park of Mareil” which profits from a small shopping mall. This allotment became the district more populated commune.

The communes bordering are Herbeville in the North-East, Crespières in south-east, Beynes in the south, Montainville in south-west and Maule in the North-West.

The commune is served by the Mantes-the-Pretty line of Railroad of Paris-Montparnasse to via Plaisir - Oil cake and Épône - Wall with the Gare of Mareil-on-Mauldre. The station is near the crossroads of the secondary road 191 which connects Épône on the secondary road 113 (ex- RN13) and its access to the Autoroute of Normandy in north with RN12 in the south, and of the secondary road 307 which connects the valley of Mauldre to the Chesnay.

History

The name of Mareil would come from a root Gaulois E indicating a clearing.
  • Old Gallo-Roman village.
  • Belongs to the seigneurery of Maule at the 11th century and Morainvillier at the 14th century.
  • 1883: railway of tram , on the road of Épône with Mareil-on-Mauldre.
  • 1900: inauguration of the railroad of Versailles with Maule.

Inheritance

The poetess Élisa Mercœur resided at Mareil-on-Mauldre into 1834 towards the end of its life.
