Mardonios
Mardonios is a Persian general who plays a great part in the medic Guerres.
It is related with the family of the Achéménides because it marries one of the girls of Darius I {{er}}.
In 492, it directs the first forwarding sent by Darius against the Greece. The resistance of the Thraces and the shipwreck of its fleet close to the Mont Athos make it give up.
At the time of the second medic war, it is the right-hand man of Xerxès I {{er}} which leaves him the command after the failure of Salamine. It tries opening of negotiations with Athens during the winter 480 but in front of the Athenian refusal it invades the Attique again, seizes again Athens deserted by its inhabitants, before being beaten and killed, while fighting courageously, with the Bataille of Foundations (479).
