Born about 1310 in Marcolès: Jean de Roquetaillade, religious franciscain of the convent of Aurillac, visionary, alchemist and protestor of the papacy of Avignon. It left a rather considerable work on the stars, the sky, metals, medicine etc. He is the theorist of “quintessence”, subtle substance of all the minerals which he says to obtain by repeated distillations. He is the author of several works of predictions on the future of the Church and the political world of his time. He passed most of his life in religious prison and died in Avignon in 1364.
