Marcinelle
Marcinelle (in Walloon Mårcinele ) is a section of the Belgian city of Charleroi, located in Wallonia in the Province of Hainaut.
It was a common to whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.
Geography
The commune one of is extended from the agglomeration of Charleroi. Its north-western part is primarily industrial and shelters industry doors (iron and steel industry, heavy electricity), the more residential, even green south-eastern part being and cossue.
History
August 1st The Paroisse of Marcinelle is mentioned for the first time in the year 980.Marcinelle was the theater of the dramatic accident of the Bois of Cazier or of the hundreds of minors lost the life. Measures were taken thereafter in particular to the European Council Coal and Steel (C.E.C.A).
Marcinelle saw the Affaire Dutroux dirtying its history and the Droits of the child.
Monument
The Saint Martin's day church, restored in 1923 is of Romance style of the type mosan. Inside a way of cross of Marcel Wolfers is. The tower dates from the 12th century, the church of the 15th century and the transept of the 18th century.
Economy
The North-West, being next to Charleroi and Marchienne-with-Bridge is occupied by heavy industries which made the prosperity of the commune before the fusion of 1977.

Catastrophe in the mine of the Wood of Cazier
The August 8th 1956 a fire in the mine of the Bois of Cazier makes 262 victims.
The site recently was redesigned and restored in arts center and museum.
A funeral march bears the name of " Marcinelle" in homages to the victims of this catastrophe.
