Marchienne-with-bridge

Marchienne-with-Bridge (in Walloon MÃ¥rciene ) is a section of the Belgian city of Charleroi located in Walloon region in the Province of Hainaut.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

It was a commune of 17.000 inhabitants the year of the fusion of the communes.

Crossed by two rivers, the Sambre and the Water of Hour, Marchienne was an important industrial center. There exists still a subsidiary company of Arcelor in Marchienne.

Curiosities

The places interesting to see at present in this commune are, while arriving by the south (Montigny-the-Lime):
  • the castle of Cartier (of which a photograph below, taken swimming pool in direction of the street of Beaumont and the park which, although its surface was cut down, still has some beautiful trees)
  • the boat-vault, moored on the Sambre under a bridge (photo below, towing is photograph on the right and makes it possible to join the Abbaye of Alder)

One also finds there a swimming pool, a sports complex and of old ramparts.
