The Mars is a French river of the Massif Central, the tributary main thing of the Sumène and tributary of a tributary of the the Dordogne.

Geography

It takes its source in the Regional natural park of the Volcanos of Auvergne, in the Cantal with more than 1.500 m of altitude, on the commune of the Falgoux, on the western slopes of the Puy Mary.

It is thrown in the Sumène out of left bank, three kilometers in the south-west of Bassignac.

  • On the commune of Falgoux, several cascades mark out the course of the Mars:

      • cascades of Biaguin 

      • the cascade of Rochemonteil 
      • the cascade of Piraù 

  • the Mars, like several other rivers of the catchment area of Sumène, is indexed in the Réseau Natura 2000 as very important site for the conservation of the Loutre (will lutra will lutra)  .
