Marcello Pagliero
Marcello Pagliero or, in France, Marcel Pagliero (born the January 15th 1907 with London, in England; deceased the December 9th 1980 with Paris) was a Réalisateur, Scénariste, producing Acteur and French of Italian origin.
It in particular was nominated with the Oscar of the best original screenplay for Païsa .
Biography
August 1st ; Source 1: Cinema with Mr Cinéma Born from a Franco-Italian couple, Marcello Pagliero spends its first seven years to England; the family returns to Italy in 1914. It makes studies of right, works in journalism (critical arts person), then in the cinema: initially as translator (English-Italian), then as scenario writer. He carries out its first film in 1943; Roberto Rossellini gives him the main role of Rome, city open . He writes also the scenario of Païsa . He carries out then a career of actor and realizer mainly in France where he settles in 1947. After having collaborated in various reviews and newspapers like literary and critic art criticism, it starts to be devoted to the cinema as translator of dialogs of foreign films, and as from 1940, written scenarios for Italian films very important steps. In 1943, it passes behind the camera, but its first tests of realization are not very happy; it begins three films, but must give up of them two for lack of financing and especially of the fact the deterioration of the military situation. On the plate of Scalo thank you , it makes knowledge with Roberto Rossellini, which becomes a friend and, in 1945, the fact of taking part as actor - it plays one of the crucial roles of film, that of communist engineer Manfredi, chief of Resistance - and assisting operator, jointly with Carlo Di Palma and Gianni Di Venanzo, with the turning of Rome open city . With Rossellini and others, it Co-writing the scenario of another essential work of the neorealism, Païsa .
In 1946, it succeeds in directing its first film, Roma città released , of atmosphere at first sight neorealist, but actually surreal and marvellous (scenario: Ennio Flaiano, Cesare Zavattini, Marcello Marchesi; distribution: Vittorio De Sica, Andrea Checchi, Valentina Cortese, Ave Ninchi, Camillo Mastrocinque). Distributed only two years later, this film knows a failure.
After interprethaving still interpreted the role of an engineer in film of Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, will altra It , it leaves for France, where it carries out a career of actor in dramatic films and black films. In France, it is renamed Marcel Pagliero and is compared with Jean Gabin. It returns to Italy in the Fifties for its only theatrical experiment - in 1953 it puts in scene, in collaboration with Luciano Lucignani, a version of the Mandrake of Machiavel - and for some cinematographic achievements: in 1954-55, it directs dramatic films like Vestire gli ignudi and Vergine moderna or of films of adventure like Darling-Bibi ; after which, it turns over definitively to France where it directs other films without particular importance and appears intermittently as actor until his retirement, towards end of the year 60.
