Marcellin Albert
Marcellin Albert , (born in 1851 with Argeliers and dead the December 21st 1921), is a café owner and Vigneron considered as the leader of the Révolte of the vine growers of the Aude.
Biography
Orphan of father, raised by his mother and his grandfather, it receives a sceondary education in pension with Carcassonne. He leaves it at 16 years to work with the family vines. In 1870, it engages at the Zouaves and is sent in Kabylie. It Marie in 1873. It is elected city council man of Argeliers in 1881. It holds a coffee and plays to with it of the plays.In 1900, it launches out in the fight for the defense of the natural wine against the wine of fraud, against the restriction of the rights of the home distillers first of all, against the remission of tax on sugar thereafter.
He is the initiator of the revolt of the vine growers which begins on March 11th, 1907.
Discredited by Clemenceau, he is imprisoned and misses being lynched at his coming out of prison. He dies in misery and the lapse of memory.
Called " lou Cigal " by Ferroul (because it haranguait crowd since a plane tree), it is today regarded as a local hero audois.
