Marcellin-Berthelot college

The college Marcellin-Berthelot (LMB) is located at the west of the commune of Saint-Maur-of-Ditches and close to that of Joinville. It is probably about the best college of the the Valley-of-Marne and also without any doubt of one of best of Île-de-France, taking into consideration its result to the baccalaureat and the contests of the universities.

Little story

The Marcellin-Berthelot college was founded in 1938 in a building builds in 1936. It is the first college of France to have been mixed as of its opening. Its imposing architecture and the height of the ceilings testifies to prestige that the authorities wanted, as of the beginning, to give to this establishment. Very quickly, it drained the best pupils of the neighborhoods and even of the department. Today, a more strict application of the report card and the development of the preparatory classes in other colleges limited its traditional role of establishment of elite. Its remainder will have however intact, as well as the level standard of the teachers.

Pupils

The college counts approximately 2200 pupils divided in 68 classes including 11 classes of " high level sportsmen " and 27 of post-vat. Manpower are distributed approximately for half in the secondary, the remainder being divided in prépa or BTS. The dies scientist, economic, literary and biology are represented. The scientific preparatory classes are:
  • In 1st year: 2 MPSI, 3 PCSI, 3 BCPST;
  • In 2nd year: 1 MP, 1 MP*, 1 PSI, 1 PSI*, 1 PC, 1 PC*, 3 BCPST.

The college accommodates also preparatory classes at the business schools: an economic way (ECE) and a scientific way (ECS). There is thus with final the four classes: ECE1 and ECE2; ECS1 and ECS2. Approximately 70% pupils integrate one of the first six universities of trade (HEC/ESSEC/ESCP-EAP/EM Lyon/EDHEC/Audencia).

The college counts also a hypokhagne (with preparation science Po) and a khagne-ulm.

The classes prépas of the Berthelot college very obtain each year of good performances to the entrance examinations of the most famous schools (HEC, Polytechnique, ENS, schools veterinary or agronomic). The selection at the entry in class prépa, even if it is less than in certain prestigious prépas Parisian, is very strong all the same and the college even recruits only goods very good pupils.

The Marcellin-Berthelot college counted among his professors Léopold Sédar Senghor, former president of Senegal, academician and celebrates poet of the Négritude. Georges Politzer also taught in this college between 1938 and 1941.
