Marcelle Delpastre

Marcelle Delpastre is a auteure limousine of language Occitan E and Frenchwoman.

Its life

Marcelle Delpastre was born on February 2nd, 1925 in Germont on the commune of Chamberet in Corrèze. Girl, grand-daughter, back-small-girl of peasants limousins, it is born in the middle of the country Civilization. At it Marcelle Delpastre hears and learns two languages, the occitan and French. She is schoolgirl with Surdoux then with Saint-Léonard-with-Noblat in High-Vienna before returning to the college of Brive-the-Strapping woman where she obtains the baccalaureat philosophy-literature. She makes then a passage to the School of decorative Arts of Limoges. She impassions herself then for the human forms (the faces, female curves…) and for the esthetics of the things in general.

In 1945 Marcelle Delpastre turns over food in the family farm of Germont where it will be country-woman all the remainder of her life. While working, that it is occupied milking the cows where to lead the Tracteur, it does not have of cease to think on subjects of poetry, worms, rhymes. Poetry accompanies it all the day and it keeps in its pocket a notebook on which it notes the worms and the ideas which come to him to mind, ideas that it works again then during the night. One can thus think that the majority of the masterpieces of Marcelle Delpastre were born in a cattle shed or at the edge of pre.

At the end of the years 1940 and to the beginning of the year 1950, whereas its books of poems and notes start to pile up, Marcelle Delpastre sends texts to some reviews and anthologies of poetry. It should be said that several of its literary correspondences encourage there for a long time. Small publications in small participations, it is made little by little know and appreciate literary circle the Limousin.

With the beginning of the year 1960, Marcelle Delpastre notes with pain the death of her small village of Germont and with him of all country civilization however thousand-year-old in the Limousin. The tractors replace oxen, the machines replace the tools and the hand of the man, the television replaces taken care by which the oral tradition was transmitted… It is at this time that Marcela (as calls it his/her friends in occitan) starts with much being interested in the tales, proverbs and traditions of its Limousin country. It at that time makes the meeting of Robert Joudoux (of the regionalistic review Lemouzi ) and of Jean Mouzat (author occitan the Limousin).

The first work in occitan of Marcelle Delpastre is the lenga that such an amount of me platz (the language which such an amount of I like): E if me aproism with the senta taula, voldria `Na òstia of side of blat-per comuniar early per lo còp emb lo good god E emb the terra-ensemble belament `semblats - coma the alen in Sheba daus blats-dins the lenga that such an amount of me platz . As from this moment, Marcelle Delpastre decides to write in occitan the Limousin, of the Limousin and on the Limousin.

In the middle of the years 1960, it starts to collect and rewrite traditional tales limousins. The first collection is published in 1970 pennies the title Los tales dau Pueg Gerjant (tales of the Gargan Mount), often republished still today in collections of French tales. Parallel to that it starts to make work of Ethnologue of his country with the tomb of the ancestors : habits and beliefs around religious holidays and of the local worships . It should be noted that if it were not a frog of stoup, Marcelle Delpastre however had a very strong faith as a God while accepting, like the majority of Limousins, various specific pagan traditions to this country. In 1968 is published the vinha dins the òrt , poem preceded with the contest Jaufré Rudel. Its French version ( the vine in the garden ) will be put in theater in 1969 by the troop of Radio-Limoges, troop which will go up in years 1970 of other texts of Delpastre ( the man burst , walk with the star ). Continuous Marcelle Delpastre to write poems and only some of them are published at the time in the reviews Lemouzi , Traces , Poésie 1 , Vent Terral or Oc .

In 1974 Los Saumes pagans ( pagan Psalms ) leave in the collection Messatges the Institut Estudis Occitans. it is this collection of poems which truly made it know of all the literary circle occitan. In the middle-class man and the peasant , Delpastre continues to study the habits, the beliefs and the oral tradition of the Limousin, this time on the topic of fire. Later it will be the turn of the wild beasts and domestic to be with the honor in its Bestiari lemosin , Bestiaire the Limousin sailing between reality and Mythologie.

In the years 1970 Marcelle Delpastre makes two important meetings, those of Michel Chadeuil and Jan dau Melhau, two young authors in language limousine. She will take part regularly in their review Lo Leberaubre whose title is a contraction of leberon (Loup-garou) and of aubre (the tree), and who gives himself for mission in subtitle of balhar of mow raiç to the leberon E far corre the aubre the nuech , i.e. to give roots to the werewolf and to make run the tree the night. Marcelle Delpastre starts to be known of Limousins for her interventions and her interviews in the local press ( the Limousin Magazine , the Mountain , the Echo of the Center , the Popular one of the Center …) and also of all the Occitaniste S thanks to the reviews Oc , Occitans and especially Knowledge of the Countries of Oc (by the feather of Yves Rouquette).

In her last years, Marcelle Delpastre worked much in company of her friend Jan dau Melhau to make leave the dust of the hundreds of new texts. In the years 1990, the editions Payot publish the French versions of several of its texts in prose and Bernard Pivot invites it in her emission Culture medium . Reached Disease of Charcot, Marcelle Delpastre dies on February 6th, 1998 in its farm of Germont where it was born, where it always lived, worked and wrote. Jan dau Melhau, its sole legatee, continues and finishes to publish the integral work of Delpastre to the editions Lo chamin of Feels Jaume (the works are accessible to the non-occitanophones because published in bilingual version occitan-French). The manuscripts of Marcelle Delpastre are preserved today at the municipal media library of Limoges.

Poet (she hated the term of poetess which she made rimer with my buttocks …), narrator, novelist and ethnologist, Marcelle Delpastre are recognized today like one of the ten great writers occitans of the 20th century (at the side of Jean Boudou, Bernard Manciet, Rene Nelli or max Rouquette. The message of this woman, it which left its ground limousine forever, extends to universal and speaks for all the men, it is what makes the force and the beauty of its work.
