Marcel Navarro

Marcel Navarro (1922 - 2004), scenario writer of cartoons and director of publisher which contributed by its dynamism to the success of the publications in “small size” and diffusion in France of the Super-héros of the Marvel Comics thanks to the covers of Jean Frisano.

Born the March 29th 1922, it makes its first weapons in 1941 as journalist with Lyon Républicain , a newspaper delocalized in province due to war. He works simultaneously with the general Public limit company of editions (WISE), directed by Ettore Carozzo, where he carries out the page layout of the weekly magazine Jumbo . This work the met in contact with the draftsman and editor Pierre Mouchot (Chott) and with To wrap Luggage (Robba) while allowing him to familiarize itself with the world of the cartoon.

To the release in 1945, it launches the collection the fantastic Stories for the sporting weekly magazine Sprint where scénarise anonymously Secret agent Z 302 for Robba, Billy Strong for Chott and Captain Yank for Robert Rocca.

In 1946, it adopts the pseudonym Américanisé of J.K. Melwyn-Nash and imagines the character of Fantax which was one of the first dressed up heroes of French origin. For the editions Pierre Mouchot, renamed Company of Rhone-native editions (SER) in 1951, it also creates several series of which Big Bill the breaker and Robin of Wood .

In 1948, it joins Auguste Vistel and founds the Four cardinal points, a company of editions which publishes a female newspaper entitled Only you . The title will be repurchased by Dargaud in July 1951. The same year, they creates with Auguste Vistel and Bernadette Ratier the company Aventures and Voyages (more known under the name of My Newspaper). It written there scenarios of Marco Polo and Brik and Yak for Jean Cézard.

In 1950, Navarro and Vistel found the editions Lug which they will direct until January 1989 unit, date on which they yield their business to the editor Semic. Personal friend of GianLuigi Bonelli, founder of the editions of the same name ( Tex, Martin Mystère, Dylan Dog ), it publishes many fumetti there Italian besides that it says to prefer with the American comics.

Throughout its rich person career of scenario writer he will have collaborated, under the pseudonyms of J.K. Melwyn-Nash and Malcolm Naughton, with many artists: Antonio de Vita ( the Small Duke , 1955), Augusto Pedrazza ( Zembla , 1963), Ivo Pavone ( Rakar , 1968; Dick Demon , 1972) Lina Buffolente ( Gun Gallon , 1968), Luciano Bernasconi ( Wampus , 1969; Waki , 1974), Free Oneta ( Zembla , Oum the white dolphin , 1972), Jean-Yves Mitton ( Blek , 1975; the Money Surfer , 1980; Mikros , 1980,) Ciro Tota ( Blek , Photonik , 1980). It also engaged Jean Frisano which carried out several hundreds of covers for titles Super-héros such as Strange or Western: Rodeo, Kiwi, Tex Willer…

Withdrawn in Provence since 1989, it is deceased in November 2004.
