Marcel Gabriel Lods (born with Paris the August 16th 1891 and deceased in Paris the September 9th 1978) is a Architecte and Urbaniste French.

Biography

Marcel Lods follows studies to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of decorative Arts as to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts to Paris where it obtains a diploma of architecture in 1923. During the 2 world wars, it is useful in the French Army and a passion for the Aéronautique develops to with it. Of 1928 with 1940, it realizes, in collaboration with Eugene Beaudouin of many constructions, using materials and industrial methods. In particular, it develops the use of prefabricated in the construction industry of buildings.

That is on the Field of the Birds in Bagneux in 1930 or with the City of the Dumb woman with Drancy of 1932 with 1934, Lods is responsible for the design dwellings. Member of the Union of the modern Artists (UAM) in the the Thirties, it influences the team towards a choice of materials making the buildings increasingly lighter such as the school of outdoor of Suresnes with his removable external walls or the house of the people to Clichy, realized in collaboration with Vladimir Bodiansky and the engineer Jean Prouvé

This ideal of an architecture tending towards the immateriality is illustrated by the club house of the airport Roland Garros in 1935 and the project (never carried out) of large the Exhibition center to Defense, mainly made glass and of steel, which was to have a metal roof accessible to the cars via the slopes extending along frontages from glass.

Of 1940 with 1944, it forms part, with Le Corbusier of the Association for an Architectural Restoration (ASCORAL). After the war, he works for the French military administration on a plan of rebuilding of the German city of Mainz destroyed with more than 80% by the bombardments. Repudiated in its ideas, it goes back to Paris in 1948 where it works as independent architect on great projects for various communities.

The beginning of the year 1950, it succeeds Auguste Perret with the head of its workshop of architecture to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts. There has as a pupil Jean Renaudie, Renee Gailhoustet

Impassioned aviation and of photography, it carries out a great number of air photographs of its own architectural achievements. The whole of these photographs as its funds of files are preserved by the French Institute of architecture.

  • 1931 - 1935 Quoted of the Field of the Birds with Bagneux (Hauts-de-Seine): 848 residences distributed in small buildings HBM. First whole of French prefabricated residences.
  • 1931 - 1934 Quoted of the Dumb woman with Drancy (Seine-Saint-Denis) in collaboration with Eugene Beaudouin, Vladimir Bodiansky (engineer) and Jean Proven (for the door frames): regarded as the first Great unit of France. Composed of 10 bars of 4 stages, 5 turns of 15 stages (destroyed), as well as a building out of U of 4 stages, which accueilla the camps of internment.
  • 1934 - 1935 the School of outdoor of Suresnes in collaboration with Eugene Beaudouin (registered MH)
  • 1936 - 1939 House of the People of Clichy in collaboration with Eugene Beaudouin, Jean Proven and Vladimir Bodiansky (first example of curtain wall in prefabricated panels) (Classified MH)
  • 1937 Club-house says club Roland Garros of the aerodrome of Buc (the Yvelines), dismounted in 1940 by the Germans.
  • 1948 - 1955 Rebuilding of Sotteville-the-Rouen and the town of Tweed in Seine-Maritime.
  • 1950 - 1953 Village " SHAPE " with Fontainebleau: 300 residences out of bars, according to the process of Camus prefabrication, for the personnel of the HQ of NATO
  • 1954 Great whole of the white Castle (3000 residences) with Saint-Etienne-of-Rouvray the (Seine-Maritime)
  • 1954 - 1955 Installation of the head office of Emmaüs to Charenton-the-Bridge
  • 1956 Church Holy-Jeanne-with Arc of the Seedbed with Belfort
  • 1957 - 1959 Great unit the large grounds (1500 residences) with Marly-the-King (the Yvelines)
  • 1959 - 1962 Quoted Salengro or Gaston Roulaud with Drancy (803 residences): 2 buildings of 8 stages, 1 of 10 stages, 1 of 12 stages and 1 turn, built in collaboration with Andre Malizard for the OPHLM of Drancy. The unit includes/understands also a house of the young people, a crib and trade.
  • 1959 - 1969 Great whole of Beauval, with Meaux (8300 residences) instead of a project of " radieuse" city; fallen through of Corbusier
  • 1966 Great whole of the Green zone Sotteville-the-Rouen
  • 1966 - 1970 Residential building of 500 residences " Contemporains" with Elancourt (the Yvelines), destroyed today.
  • 1967 - 1970 Quoted Paul Eluard with Drancy: 2 bars and a tower of 15 stages.
  • 1968 - 1970 Quoted of the Large-Pond Rouen
  • 1970 House of the social sciences to Paris
  • 1970 - 1974 Office building to Villeurbanne (the Rhone), today residence coed.
  • 1974 House " Mare" with Sérigny (Flowering ash): personal villa of Marcel Lods, concentrate of the techniques of manufacture used by architect (registered MH).
