Marcel Gabriel Lods (born with Paris the August 16th 1891 and deceased in Paris the September 9th 1978) is a Architecte and Urbaniste French.
Marcel Lods follows studies to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of decorative Arts as to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts to Paris where it obtains a diploma of architecture in 1923. During the 2 world wars, it is useful in the French Army and a passion for the Aéronautique develops to with it. Of 1928 with 1940, it realizes, in collaboration with Eugene Beaudouin of many constructions, using materials and industrial methods. In particular, it develops the use of prefabricated in the construction industry of buildings.
That is on the Field of the Birds in Bagneux in 1930 or with the City of the Dumb woman with Drancy of 1932 with 1934, Lods is responsible for the design dwellings. Member of the Union of the modern Artists (UAM) in the the Thirties, it influences the team towards a choice of materials making the buildings increasingly lighter such as the school of outdoor of Suresnes with his removable external walls or the house of the people to Clichy, realized in collaboration with Vladimir Bodiansky and the engineer Jean Prouvé
This ideal of an architecture tending towards the immateriality is illustrated by the club house of the airport Roland Garros in 1935 and the project (never carried out) of large the Exhibition center to Defense, mainly made glass and of steel, which was to have a metal roof accessible to the cars via the slopes extending along frontages from glass.
Of 1940 with 1944, it forms part, with Le Corbusier of the Association for an Architectural Restoration (ASCORAL). After the war, he works for the French military administration on a plan of rebuilding of the German city of Mainz destroyed with more than 80% by the bombardments. Repudiated in its ideas, it goes back to Paris in 1948 where it works as independent architect on great projects for various communities.
The beginning of the year 1950, it succeeds Auguste Perret with the head of its workshop of architecture to the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the fine arts. There has as a pupil Jean Renaudie, Renee Gailhoustet…
Impassioned aviation and of photography, it carries out a great number of air photographs of its own architectural achievements. The whole of these photographs as its funds of files are preserved by the French Institute of architecture.
