Marcel Jouhandeau

Marcel Jouhandeau (Guéret, July 26th 1888 - Rueil-Malmaison, April 7th 1979) is a writer French.

Biography

Born in a commercial family from Guéret, It grows in a world of women, in particular her grandmother. Marcel Jouhandeau turns, as of his youths - under the influence of an young woman left Carmel of Limoges - to a Catholicisme mystical and outrageux and it initially plans to enter the orders. It leaves for Paris in 1908 and studies with the Lycée Henri-Iv, then with the Faculty of Arts of the Université of Paris, where it starts to write. He becomes professor in a college of Passy starting from 1912.

He tests very young person his first homosexual agitations which are lived in an extreme culpability, in the insult of God. For as much, this feeling of shame does not prevent it from being devoted to many “passages to the act” and all its life will oscillate between the celebration of the male body and lived the mortifère of sexuality so much so that in 1914, in a mystical dash, Marcel Jouhandeau burns his manuscripts and tries to commit suicide. The crisis passed, it goes back gradually to the writing by the means of village chronicles which are the occasion of the first successes.

During the First World War, it, initially, is reformed, before being affected with the back as secretary with Guéret. It publishes in 1924 Pincegrain , a hardly disguised chronicle of the inhabitants of Guéret, which shocked the natives of the city. They adopt néammoins an young girl, Céline, who is confined of a small Marc. In 1971, with died of Elects, Marcel Jouhandeau finishes his days near this last.

One also reproached him his lampoon anti-semite the Jewish Danger and his voyage to Weimar, in 1941, on the invitation of Goebbels.
